Virendra Sharma MP urges government to stop the downgrading of essential services at Ealing Hospital
Member of Parliament for Ealing, Southall, Virendra Sharma, yesterday presented a public petition to Parliament asking them to urge the government to reconsider the impact of the Shaping a Healthier Future programme on Ealing Hospital.
It isn’t just Ealing, Southall that is affected by the loss of services at Ealing Hospital. The entire borough of Ealing, and surrounding boroughs have relied on Ealing Hospital for many years to deliver a high quality 24 hour a day service.
Virendra Sharma MP said:
“Since 2013 there has been a programme of rationalisation and downgrading of health services across North West London as part of the Shaping a Healthier Future programme. It is now reported that Ealing will not now receive the new 'Local Hospital' promised under the programme, as the costs of the Shaping a Healthier Future programme have spiralled. Over 100,000 people across the country signed a petition to oppose this betrayal of the local area.”
Since the Shaping a Healthier Future programme was introduced Ealing Hospital has had the Accident and Emergency department earmarked for closure, lost its maternity unit last summer and will lose the paediatric unit in June.
