Gurmail Singh battered to death by Huddersfield youngsters at the back of his Cowcliffe Hill shop

Virendra Sharma MP pays tribute to 63 year old Gurmail Singh who was brutally battered to death by Huddersfield youngsters at the back of his Cowcliffe Hill shop on Saturday evening the 20th February 2010. The motive for this horrible crime remains speculative but the police reported that the perpetrators stole cigarettes and sweets from Mr Singh’s shop after murdering him. Mr Singh arrived in Britain from Punjab in 1963 and was a well respected, known, and established member of the Cowcliffe community according to the local people.

Virendra Sharma MP said:

“Mr Singh’s death is a tragedy. I am deeply shocked about this incident and it is an absolute disgrace. It worries me a great deal that these youngsters have no regard and respect for the value of life of others. I offer my deepest sympathies and condolences to Mr Singh’s family and friends. The individuals responsible for Mr Singh’s death must be caught and brought to justice.”
