Virendra Sharma campaigning against Mayor Johnson's gaswork plans

Southall Labour Slams Tory Mayor Over Gas Works Development

Virendra Sharma MP, Labour Councillors representing Southall and Southall residents today declared their opposition to Tory London Mayor Boris Johnson’s plans to force through the Southall Gas Works development, despite massive local objections.

Plans to impose 3,750 new homes and 20,000m2 of retail space were rejected by Ealing Council after Labour objected to the plans, which will swamp Southall in even more traffic and put even more strain on local schools and health provision.

However, Tory Mayor Boris Johnson has called in the plans, making clear his intention to see the project go ahead.

Virendra Sharma MP condemned the move saying “The Tories really need to decide whether or not they are for or against these disastrous proposals. Its no good having the Tories at City Hall squabble with our Tories at the Town Hall over what should happen, when all Southall is agreed: no to the Gaswork plans.
