Virendra Sharma MP awards His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar with prestigious Yoga Rattan award

Sri_Sri_Ravi_Shankar.jpgOn Wednesday, the All Party Parliamentary Group on Indian Traditional Sciences led by Virendra Sharma MP awarded His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar with the Yoga Rattan for his inspirational work in promoting the practice of meditation as a way to obtain violence free societies.

His Holiness spoke on the compatibility of spirituality and science, and a breathing based technique that is used to relieve individual stress, societal problems and violence. His Ashram in India conducts research on spirituality and opens its findings to the public free of charge. He is a spiritual leader and founded Art of Living Foundation, an NGO that works in rural development and relief projects and fosters shared global values.

Virendra Sharma MP, Chair of the Indo-British APPG said:

It was an honour to be present while His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was recognized for the wonderful work he has accomplished. He respects and works for the improvement of all communities, regardless of race, religion, sect or creed.

The APPG on Indian Traditional Sciences was formed in 2014 and is comprised of members of both Houses of Parliament, senior policy makers, academics and community leaders. It works to develop knowledge and policies to support the acceptance and promotion of Indian traditional sciences in the UK.
