On Friday 8th May after a long evening and hours of the morning I was re-elected at 4am.
28,147 votes were cast for me, the Labour candidate, 18,760 more than for the next candidate.
I spoke to assembled crowd in the townhall once I had formally won.
Virendra Sharma MP said:
“Ealing Southall has spoken with one voice, and has rejected the politics of division and disunity. We are one Southall, one community, and so much more unites us than divides us. We have only just begun a journey together to make a better Southall for our children and grandchildren. The election is not the end of the fight to make Southall, and all of Ealing a better place to live, and bring up a family. I want to congratulate Steve Pound MP on his re-election, and particularly Rupa Huq MP on her fantastic victory. We will all be working hard together over the coming years to improve the borough of Ealing for all of our residents.”
