Virendra Sharma, MP for Ealing Southall showed their creative flair on Wednesday as they took part in the Sainsbury’s and Maltesers Red Nose Day Parliamentary Baking Competition 2015.
The competition, which was judged by celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott and organised by Sainsbury's in partnership with Maltesers, was held at Westminster to celebrate this year’s Red Nose Day (Friday 13 March).
MPs were tasked with decorating a cupcake with an array of icing and toppings including the Red Nose Day cake toppers and Maltesers, and the three winning designers chose a nominated Comic Relief project to which Sainsbury's and Maltesers would make a donation.
Virendra Sharma said:
“The work Comic Relief does across the UK is incredibly important and this was a fantastic way to get involved this year. I hope the Red Nose Day fundraising went well for everyone in Ealing Southall, as it really is a terrific cause. It is just a shame I didn't win."
Kevin Cahill, Chief Executive of Comic Relief added:
“It was great to see so many MPs roll their sleeves up and take part in the Sainsbury's and Maltesers Parliamentary Baking Competition, we were all really impressed with the creativity we saw, and baking is a fantastic way to raise money for Red Nose Day this year.”
