Today I met with Member of the Legislative Assembly for Jalandhar Cantt Constituency, Panjab India, Padma Shree Pargat Singh. Mr Singh has been awarded with the fourth highest civilian awarded by India for his outstanding contribution to society.
Mr Singh is a former Indian hockey player, considered to be one of the world’s best players and has captained the Indian Hockey team at the 1992 and 1996 Olympics. In addition to being a top sportsman, Mr Singh was a superintendent for the Punjab Police. I wanted to meet with Mr Singh to welcome him to Parliament and recognise his huge contribution to sports and politics. With the end of the Olympics and the start of the Para-Olympics, it is wonderful for me to be able to meet with those who have been involved in such significant events. Mr Singh is a well accomplished man -sportsman turned politician, and it was an honour to meet him today.
