Today, I have written to the Foreign Secretary William Hague MP condemning the unprovoked attack by a lone gunman on innocent worshippers at the Oak Creek Sikh Gurdwara in Wisconsin that resulted in six people losing their lives and others being seriously injured.
In the letter, I have stated: “I am writing to express my total condemnation and grave concern about the unprovoked attack by a lone gunman on the peaceful and innocent Sikh congregation at the Oak Creek Gurdwara, Wisconsin that resulted in the deaths of six people and the serious injury of others. This attack on this small Sikh community is very worrying indeed and raises fears of further attacks on Sikhs in the USA and the rest of the world”.
As you know I represent Ealing Southall which has the largest Sikh community in the UK and many of my constituents have family in the United States and have expressed their fears to me. I would be very grateful if you could let me know what discussions you have had or will have with the US government about what they are doing in the light of this sad event to protect Sikh communities from further attacks in the US. My heartfelt sympathies go out to every family and friend affected by this unprovoked attack. My thoughts are with you.
