On 14th March, I joined campaigners outside Ealing Hospital who were seeking to resolve a dispute over pay and conditions for 150 GMB members employed by Compass Medirest at Ealing Hospital.
Workers taken on by Medirest since the work was outsourced are offered lower terms and conditions than comparable NHS staff. This has created a two tier workforce and these vital NHS workers are paid 44% below their NHS co-workers.
The GMB campaigners are demanding to be paid an equivalent salary to their peers, the London Living Wage.
These are vital workers in the NHS and it is only fair that they should be equally compensated for their work.
