Under David Cameron, the average household’s energy bills have risen by £300 a year. This is an increase that hardworking families in this country cannot afford.
Even under the Government’s new definition of fuel poverty, 2.4 million people across the county continue to suffer from the most deadly part of the cost of living crisis.
In Ealing Southall alone, it is estimated that 31,433 households would benefit from an energy freeze. However, once again the Government has shown its fundamental inability to stand up to the big energy companies. Even when ministers have reluctantly accepted that fuel poverty is likely to rise in the upcoming years, the Government has failed to take decisive action to deal with this cost of living crisis. Hard pressed households continue to suffer as a result of the Government’s inability to act.
The need to take action on the Government’s incompetent handling of the energy bills crisis is clear. This is why I have signed a petition calling on David Cameron to freeze energy and gas bills until 2017.
