Labour’s campaigning has exposed the Liberal Democrats’ long list of broken promises; Nick Clegg’s accountability for propping up the Tory-led Government has also not gone unnoticed.
Nick Clegg, the ‘Uncredible Shrinking Man’ claims to have stood up to David Cameron. However as Labour exposed earlier this month, this is far from the truth. On the contrary, both Cameron and Clegg can be described as ‘two peas in a pod.’
The Liberal Democrats promised students they would scrap university tuition fees but instead trebled them, they promised not to increase VAT but then voted on a VAT rise on hardworking families, they promised a fair tax system promising their voters the wealthiest would be paying more however ensured a tax cut for millionaires paid by the millions of hardworking families. The Liberal Democrats did not stick to or deliver any of their promises.
Nick Clegg claims he is standing up to Cameron and the Tories, but he backed Cameron’s £3 billion top-down reorganisation of the NHS, whilst making cuts to nursing costs and increasing waiting lists. Nick Clegg also backed the Tories Bedroom Tax, even though majority of the people hit by this tax are disabled or are carers.
I am pleased that Labour has highlighted these points emphasising the greater need of transparency from the Lib Dems. The Lib Dems have been exposed and have failed to carry out their promises.
