everal months ago, allegations were made that Virendra Sharma MP accepted an impermissible donation to fund an election victory party following his election as the MP for Ealing Southall in the 2007 by-election. The independent Electoral Commission conducted a thorough and impartial investigation into these allegations, which Virendra happily co-operated with. The Electoral Commission found that he did not receive any such donation as claimed and had no connection with the alleged donation, either directly or indirectly. Virendra has therefore been completely cleared of any wrongdoing and the Electoral Commission has closed its investigation into the matter.
Speaking on this subject, Virendra Sharma said: “From the beginning I was very happy to co-operate with the Electoral Commission in order to set the record straight. I am delighted that they have unequivocally concluded that these allegations against me were false. It is always difficult when untrue allegations of this nature are made and I am very pleased that my name has been cleared by the impartial Electoral Commission.”
