Diwali 2015

I want to wish everyone celebrating a very Happy Diwali and a prosperous New Year.

Diwali is a special time of year for millions of people worldwide. We celebrate the victory of light over dark and we remember the victory of Rama and Sita.

For every part of the Hindu family in the UK, Diwali is a powerful unifying force as it is the one time where we all come together and celebrate as one. Yes there is diversity in the celebrations depending on which part of South Asia you and your family come from or whether you celebrate from the Hindu, Sikh or Jain perspective but the overall feel is one of unity and happiness in a shared celebration.

One of the common features of Diwali across India, in the UK and throughout the world is the worship ofLaxmi, the Goddess of prosperity and wealth. It is believed that Goddess Laxmi visits everyone during Diwali and brings peace and prosperity to all. Diwali also marks the end of the harvest season in most of India. Traditionally this marked the closing of accounts for businesses dependent on the agrarian cycle, and the last major celebration before winter.
