Celebrating Nagar Kirtan in Southall

Nagar_Kirtan_Photo_2.jpgOn 24th November, I participated in the colourful and vibrant celebrations in Southall to mark the birth of Guru Nanak Devji and was also joined by London Assembly member, Dr Onkar Sahota and my neighbouring colleague Seema Malhotra MP to celebrate the occasion.

The Nagar Kirtan in many ways underlined how Guru Nanak Devji’s message lives on today. The fact that the Nagar Kirtan celebrations drew crowds from every part of the community irrespective of age, religion, gender and ethnicity is very much expressive of Guru Nanak Devji’s universal vision and ability to transcend boundaries.

As a leader who was a deep proponent of equality and unity, these celebrations in Southall lived up to these venerated values.

The wonderful procession from the beginning to the end highlighted how revered and relevant Guru Nanakji’s teachings of love, compassion, honesty and unity are for our society today.
